Why Are You POOR?

by Lori on October 6, 2010

Why are you poor? Why are you Passing Over Opportunities Repeatedly?

This is what one of my mentors defines as the true definition of poor.  There are so many people who fit that definition to a tee.  The reason why I say this is because when you tell your friends, family and co-workers about a great opportunity that you have come across, what is there response? “No, I’m not interested, these things don’t work, I have tried something like that before!” The list goes on and on.

What they are doing is passing over the opportunity for one reason or another without giving it a chance to see if it would work.  We not only do this in business but in our every day life as well.

We may get offered a job and because we may think that it is beneath us we turn it down, not realizing that another opportunity my come from it down the road.  There are so many opportunities for us to make money out here and we turn it down over and over again sometimes due to lack of knowledge.

Now do not get me wrong, I by no means am talking about jumping from one MLM business to another just because it looks good or any business for that matter.  I am talking about different ways and means to add extra income to your household.  You should always be looking for  other ways to generate income, that is what great business people do.

Look at Donald Trump, Oprah Winfrey, Rachael Ray, these people have multiple streams of income because they do not pass over opportunities repeatedly and neither should you.

Start checking out affiliate sites and post card marketing just to name a couple that you can take advantage of to increase your income, you will be pleasantly surprised that you can make a small profit from just those two little opportunities that most pass on.,

Even if it is not something that you may on first glance may not be interested in, still take the time to look at it because it will also condition you to be ready when the right one comes your way and it also sends a message out  to the universe so that when you ask people to take a look at your business they will take the time to do it just because you extended the same courtesy to someone else.  Who knows that person may just like what they see and join you or buy what you are selling.

There are an immense amount of possibilities out there to help you generate the income that you desire, all you have to do is look for them!

To your prosperity,

P.S. Always Remember That MONEY IS EVERYWHERE!!!

Do me a favor share this with your friends on Facebook and Twitter and leave me a comment! Thanks I appreciate you!

Rick, I love what you just said, you are always where you are for a reason and a purpose. If we just take a minute to change how we think to a more positive thought it would change what we see and feel in an instant.
Thank you for your comment Rick you are a giant among men!

    Great post Lori,

I think most people have that victim mentality and absolutely do pass over opportunities over and over to stay in their current situation. Also, I think people that live in the main stream “matrix” usually think of not only MLM but Entrepreneurship in general as some sort of hoax or scam:)

    Thx for your post,

    Steve

Thanks Steve for your comment you make great points and it really is a shame that people do not take control over their minds and know that when opportunities come their way it may not be meant for them but to remain open to the possibility of it.

    Hi Lori,

This is a great post. I have seen people I care about who really need more income, ignore several possibilities and stay in their poverty situation. They have that victim mentality, even turning down jobs that didn’t make enough money.

  • Anonymous

    Thanks Melodie,

We have to keep trying to educate them, it does not cost them anything to take a look at opportunities but it could possible cost them a lot if they don’t.

Hi Lori. In order to succeed you have to try. To many people hesitate or fail to capitalize upon the opportunities in front of them. Try something different. Go outside of your comfort zone. You may not always succeed, but at least you tried. You just never know which road will lead to your ultimate success.

    Lori,
I have begun to notice a pattern. Those people who quickly pooh-pooh my invitation to a new opportunity are POOR. They are struggling and aren’t able to see a good thing when it is right in front of them. Now, when people are resistant or appear disinterested, I say to myself “Thank you” and I move on.
My goal is to connect with like minded, success oriented people who know a good thing when they see it. I am talking about receiving counseling from a therapist (myself) or investing in an MLM product (like Chaga anti-aging serum which is totally natural and amazing).
    Warmly,
    Erica

    Lori,
I believe you are correct, it’s all about the consciousness. When we are open and receptive, then the opportunities and synchronicities abound and we may achieve success. We must find something to say yes to, in order to share our gifts with the world.
    Thanks for sharing,
    Adam

    Erica,

I think people cannot see past what they believe they deserve in life. People want success but do not truly believe they can have it so they make up an excuse so it justifies what they really believe deep down. Thanks so much for your great comment and keep thanking the people who say know, it was not for them anyway!

    Adam,

We all have a gift that we can share if we just take the time to look for them instead of saying no to everything that may make our gift stand up and stand out. I appreciate your wonderful comment, thanks.

Hi Lori, I think fear of faliure is one of the reasons people pass over opportunities. They don’t feel capable of being to achieve success with the opportunity and don’t want to look stupid therefore they ignore the opportunity.

It’s one of those things we have to encourage people to take the opportunities.

Thanks, Lori! Great discussion you have going on here. :)
Opportunities surround us, and if one merely opens the mind’s eye to them, that alone is the beginning of success.

Every time we seize an opportunity, we grow as well, for the wisdom we learn within the work it takes to make it a success can be carried over to other opportunities already active, and ones for the future!

    Blessings!

Gavin, you hit it on the head, they are so worried about what other people think especially people who do not have the success that they want and it justifies them not doing it because of the fear.

Thanks some much for your words of widsom.

Well said Paul, that one opportunity can be the starting point for success or it could be the one that is the success. Thanks so much for your comment I appreciate it.

    You are right

  • http://www.daveanddawncook.com/ daveanddawncook

    Hey Lori,

First off, you are correct and there are opportunities all around us. My feeling is that most people are just too comfortable and are not willing to change until… (Fill in the Blank) Once someone becomes uncomfortable, they will make the switch, but it’s just to easy not to, if they don’t need to.

It’s no different than most of the people in MLM’s / Network Marketing. They say they want success, but most are not willing to do what it takes because it’s uncomfortable. A mentor of mine told me, “if you told a person that their entire family would die if they didn’t make it to the Top of their MLM company in 6 months, most people would achieve it.” Why? Because there is more discomfort of not doing it, rather than doing it.

    Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

    Dawn,

Most people will not dare to be uncomfortable so they just allow the POOR mentality to just take over their lives, it is so sad but true. I love they way your mentor puts it into perspective, wow!. Thanks for your awesome comments.

I agree far too many people pass on things simply because they think they know all about it. When in fact they most often know nothing. Or only know what other people who know nothing have told them.

It’s shame but those people will be forced to live a life of mediocrity.

  • http://www.automarker.net social bookmarking

Hey Lori, if you are talking about people who are miserable in their current status, than I agree with you. But there is nothing wrong imo with being happy with what you have. Those who are happy regardless of their status are not considered poor by me for passing up a great opportunity (in our eyes). I find it hard to judge for others whether they should take an opportunity or walk away from it. It all depends on their situation and their goals in life.
Don’t get me wrong, I have taken several opportunities in my life. But I have also made choices based on other things than finances. Most people around me did not understand my reasons, but that is why they were mine and not theirs. I have been happy with my decisions and that is what counted.
Having said that, I do agree that their are quite a few people who want change but are afraid to create it.

    Rob,

That is so true, that is why it is important for us to educate people to just open their minds because what they have been praying for to help them out most times are right in front of them and they just can’t see it.

I do agree with you comment and I am thrilled you have found a place where you are content. You were fortunate to be open to find what makes you happy there are many who look for things to change but as you stated are afraid to change and create it. Great comment!

    Hey Lori,

Yes people do pass over possibility after possibility based mainly what they’ve heard from other people. And the truth is people fail at a network marketing business because they treat it as a hobby.

    HI Lori,
YOu are absolutely right, the world is full of great opportunities. You just have to be open to trying something new. Just imagine all of those people that are umemployed and we are sitting, ready and waiting for them to see the brilliance in what we are doing.

Also like you I have multiple streams of income. I am a student of Robert Allen, “Mulitple Streams of Income”.

    Hey Lori,

Great post! I think that it is truly the “mindset” of people that drives them to where they are. You made a very important statement in the fact that you wouldn’t see successful people leave an opportunity on the table. They would take advantage of it. That’s why they are successful!

    Hello Lori,

How ironic! My mom just told me that network marketing dont work, they are just scams. But now after reading your blog I have a new response, “Dont judge me because you passed over the opportunity.” thanks

Hey Tim glad you enjoyed the post, and unfortunately there are so many people who just let their minds just stay in one place and cannot fathom any other opportunity. The statement is so true that “A Mind Is A Terrible Thing To Waste” and for most people a costly one too!

If your mindset is right, you will find opportunities everywhere. And investing in your personal development is the best investment you’ll every make.

    Love the acronym for POOR!

    Lori,

You make good points! It’s surprising the number of people I encounter who make decisions about the direction they will take based on absolutely no information. By doing this, they slam the door of opportunity and possibly rob themselves of the chance to live life as it should be lived.

    Unfortunate!

Wishing you good health with prosperity,
    Susan

    Lori,

We appreciate your perspective… when it comes to opportunities, we base our decisions on how it “feels” to us. If it is in sync with us, with who we are, then it’ll feel right and will be something we will immerse ourselves into. If it isn’t a fit, the prospect of making some money won’t be enough to get us to say yes to the “opportunity”.

    Thanks,

Thanks guys for the awesome comment, great super doers such as yourselves have opened up your minds and your hearts and realized an opportunity when you saw one. People should follow your example and at least see one opportunity based on what that principle alone.

Passing Over Opportunities Repeatedly – that is probably the best definition of “poor” I’ve ever come across. I’ll keep that in mind for myself and I’ll share this golden nugget with others who have ears to hear and eyes to see and those who might need to have their eyes and ears opened but haven’t considered doing that yet. Thank you, Lori, for this profound eye-and ear-opening post.

    Lori,
I don’t usually pass over opportunities. In fact, I often do the opposite – take on too many opportunities and then I don’t have enough time or energy or focus to really succeed at any. I guess there are many ways to be poor and not as many ways to be rich. Building wealth requires taking risks when opportunities appear and staying focused on the goals and taking all the steps needed until the goals are met.

    Hi Lori
passing over opportunities repeatedly…thats me. Because I get so many in my inbox…I just cannot accept them all…so I am selective nowadays…I learn and I pass the learning on.
But I totally agree…you cannot get RICH if you don’t take the opportunities when they come along…and putting all your eggs in one basket is foolharding. All abundant people have multiple streams of income and a life focussed on the important things – - love and stuff, charity, kindness and service.

Your blog is cool, Lori. It has lots of great presentation
    Best regards

    Peter,

I too get lots of them and I take the time to look at them because I would like for a person to look at mine and multiple streams of income is the way to wealth it does not have to be multiple companies, I think a lot of people get that confused. Thanks for the comment!
