Why Are You Buying Leads?

by Lori on January 7, 2010

I just have one question for you, “Why are you buying leads?” When I first started in network marketing I was doing the exact same thing as you, wasting my time, my energy and most importantly my money on buying leads. In the beginning I really did not know that I was in network marketing, I was just trying to find a business that I could do online so that I could quit my job that was about 10 years ago. I was in my third company when I actually went to a live meeting and heard the phrase “Network Marketing” So, those first two companies gave me a list of lead companies to call to purchase leads and a script and told me to start calling.

What I started to realize was that the majority of the people on my lead list was not interested in starting their own business I was floored. They had put their information for an offer that was being promoted, I had some people who just hung up on me and some who seemed interested and when I scheduled the follow up, you guessed it they did not answer the phone. These are normally not high quality leads.

I am a persistent type of a person and I do not give up easy. So I went on line and got training from some of the top network marketers and I even purchased their script books and said word for word what was in it. I did get some good results doing that so don’t get me wrong it does work, IF and only IF you get with the right leaders of the industry and I did.

The only problem that I personally had was that I was spending hundreds of dollars and getting hundreds of leads but my sign up ratio did not equal what I was spending. I could not afford to keep buying more leads. Frustration set in and I was just getting tired of it all. Why was I not getting the success that the others were, why were my leads a bunch of garbage, why was I chasing people who did not want to be chased?

I know some of you can relate to this and you are feeling the say way I did so, the difference between me and you is that I do not buy leads anymore, I generate my own leads for FREE using social media sites, such as Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn. You can also use YouTube to generate FREE leads.  My favorite is Facebook and is really easy to do, so you see there really is no need for you to buy leads anymore. Stop doing what is not working for the masses and start using these free strategies and watch your business begin to grow.

    Hi Lori,

While I haven't purchased leads, it has been a suggested path to getting more clients. As you mentioned, finding potential clients (customers, partners, etc) is much easier on the social networks. I'm meeting lots of people to learn from, partner in new ventures, as well as to help in my hypnotherapy practice. Thanks for sharing your experience with purchased lists.

Larry it is so much better to have leads that are actually interested in what you offer instead of people who have no idea what you are talking about and ended up on a lead list for apply for a FREE toaster. LOL. Glad you found some value in the post.
