Energy deregulation has enabled consumers to purchase their energy supply from any energy service company that they choose. In the past before energy deregulation, you had to purchase both natural gas and electricity by whatever local utility that was in the area. Now you do not have to.

Since now we have a deregulation of power in certain markets, the utility company is no longer the only option for energy supply. Now suppliers actually have to compete for your business which means you will now be able to get and keep cheaper prices because they want your business.

It comes down to now competitive suppliers are able to provide a variety of options for terms and rates. You do not have to change anything but where you decide to get you energy from.
