The Importance Of Building A List Of Paying Customers and Distributors

by Lori on August 16, 2010

Building your list of paying customers and distributors, do you know how important it is to have one and to keep adding to it each and every single day?  I do not think that most people do. I have noticed while being out on facebook  especially that people will post their business opportunity, product or service and when you click on the link it goes directly to their main company website.

I know that they are not capturing the leads information so they have no way to know who may have clicked on the link and if they actually took a look at the information. This is a waste of your time and your effort because to get better results you MUST build a list of interested prospects who want to know m ore about what you do.

Most of us are in our business to make some money, so if we take the time to send out links and information about our business would it not be a great idea to be able to tell who actually is  interested in what you offer?

I totally understand that people listen to their uplines that may not have a clue about opt in boxes to capture information but we all should know that the money is in the list. Writing down your friends, family and co-workers is fine to start with but when you run out of them what do you do?  Some would say buy leads, cold calling, the 3-foot rule, but some of us can’t do that so our results will be next to nothing.

Each of us have our own way of connecting and building relationships, but in my opinion the best way to do that is to get an autorepsonder, create a list and start getting your prospects their and share with them a way to help build their business or show them how whatever it is that you are selling can benefit them.  They are very inexpensive to get, a great autoresponder that I recommend is Aweber. There are others to pick from but that is the one that I use.

Building a list can be the way to have a long lasting customer base that will get to know, like and trust you. Always remember that people only buy from people that they feel that way about, so why not become one of those people by changing how you do business by that one small tweak to your business.

If  you want to stay in the game, my suggestion to you is to work smart instead of working hard and it is the little things that can make all the difference.

If you found this information of some value please share with your friends on facebook and twitter and your comments are always appreciated and welcomed!

    Very true Lori,
Money is the list no matter how hard you try if you can’t build a list of hungry customers then you are doomed to be a failure that’s why the gurus of this industry can make insane amount of money overnight because they simply push a push a button to their list in the database. I have also discovered that as well but never actually understood what it meant because i was busy trying to figure out things but currently it is my number 1 priority!

    To your success,

Kebabope, thanks for the comment, making sure that you actively keep in touch with you list is key to building and keeping that list.

Lori, Wow you are spot on with this post! Just as you said “The money is in the list”. I really think that alot of people give up because they run out of money before they grow their downline enough to make money, all because they fail to build their list. Like you said ” work smart instead of working hard”. Terrific post Lori! Thanks, Joseph McDevitt

Hey Lori, thank you for the post. Buildeing relationships is always crucial to good business and that starts with your list. How can you strike up an ongoing relationship with someone if you don’t have their contact info? Aweber is my fav too. It’s flexible, easy to use and doesn’t cost a whole lot.
Love your intro video too, I think I could listen to your for a while. I love your attitude and posture and you have a good head on your shoulders.

    Hi Lori,
Met you through TSA. You are absolutely correct, because some upline tell you to do exactly as you mentioned. It may work in the beginning, some of your family and friends I found out don’t even take you serious, especially if you tell them you are starting a business. So, I agree, you must build a list of interested prospects, connect and build a relationship with them. You should also add to your list daily, follow-up and keep in touch with them.

Thanks for a great posting, Lori

I really like your site Lori and I agree with what you say here in this post. I have just started using AWeber but have to confess I’m quite a newbie with autoresponders. I’d love to hear more about how you use these tools and the success you’re having.
    Joanna :)

Lori, Thanks for the reminder. I have been using AWeber for awhile and I find it quite user friendly. It is so much more comfortable to share upcoming events and products with people who have already opted into my lists as opposed to sending emails to people I know who have not opted in and who have mixed responses.
I am now focusing my attention more on those that have already shown an interest in what I am offering.

Thanks Joanna I appreciate the kind words and glad you enjoy my site. You will get better in time and it is really easy to learn.

    Erica,

The more you focus on those people, the better your results will be, you will become more of a trusted friend and go to person.

    Hi Lori,

I like your thinking — working smarter, not harder, and refusing to work with people who aren’t serious about their success. I’ve signed up to Aweber and will be offering a free report to those who sign up on my blog. I’m sure this is an easier way to build a list. The opt-in seems more effective than cold calling because people opting in to your site are seeking information — so, they’re already motivated.

Hi Lori, I could not agree more. The money is in the list. That is what they say and it is true. The list is critically important. On the flip side, I feel that you should not be so focused on your list that you forget to build a relationship.
For example, I hate getting emails that claim that you can get a product for free, where in reality you have to give your email address. I know they mean no money exchange when the say free, but it truly is not free. It is an exchange of product for email. If it irritates me, I am sure there are others that are irritated by it also.
Don’t get me wrong I am not against exchanges like this. Just market them more honestly. That, to me, weighs in heavier in building a relationship.

Thanks for this, I must look at my list now and see how I can improve, maintain and at least give it some attention as it tends to just sit there in the background. Thanks for the nudge.

    Hi Lori,
I am here thanks to TSA…good to meet you.
So true about the list …without it you do not have a business.
Also important is the way you use your list .. need to build a relationship with the people on your list and not just send them offers etc.
    Cheers

    Lori,
Great point about the pitfall of using company-sponsored replicated websites. Without a way to capture that lead first, there’s no way to do any followup. Replicated websites are great for telling the story AFTER the prospect has shared their email address, etc. Followup is everything in MLM.

    To your continued success,

    Hi Lori,

Building a list is the number one thing that people should always be concentrating online. Of course not just any list will do, it must be a targetted list of people who are interested in what it is that you have to offer.

Although that seems obvious to most people, there are many people who build lists of non targetted folks. For instance if a list is built 100 percent from freebie seekers, the odds of selling a product that costs multiple thousands is pretty slim to that list of folks.

I think Aweber is the number one tool in my arsenal of tools online. It is the one thing I cannot live without.

I found your blog through the TSA but I am also a member of the m-3 which I see you are as well! :)

You have a nice blog here, I will be back to visit it more.

Hi Lori, Over the past few years, I’ve built up a list of 40,166 people all from free traffic. I definitely know the importance of building the list.

You can make HUGE incomes with a small list also as long as that relationship is there. So, my advice to anyone, is start where you are at now… focus on building that list and provide huge value.

Communicate with your list on a regular basis.

Great to see you again Lori!

You are so correct, building the list is helpful to make money but we should always remember to build that relationship or the list will be futile. Thanks

You are welcome Belinda, we all can improve on what we do, I am going to go back and see what I can do as well. Thanks so much.

    Hi Lori,
I agree with you that the old school, upline training seems to not be very aware of the Attraction Marketing approach.
Personally I also feel that regardless of which approach we use, we need to be aligning ourselves first with what we are wanting.
I noticed that I want to have clients, but there is another old thought pattern running and unless I clear that, no matter what I do, I will still be were I am.
    Thank you for your post.
    Have a great weekend.

Building a list is very important.

But what is more important is building a team.

Of course if you have a list like Galvin’s who cares :)

This is probably one of the most important things ever.

Building a list has been so king for my own success in the mlm and internet world. It’s like a rolodex you can reach out and talk to at any given time you like.

Also it ensures your success in network marketing no matter what happens with your company! :-)

    Hello Lori,

You go girl! Great advice your passing out here. Besides using an autoresponder to build a list it also allows you to leverage your time which for me is very important.

While I’m out enjoying life at the same time with an autoresponder I can be following up with people on auto pilot making it a win-win for all.

For anyone not using one nowadays, get one!

    Wishing you all my best:)

There is no question in my mind that if you have no list, you have no business. But the reverse is, having a list is no guarantee of having a business. Consider: do you have a marketing plan (map, funnel)? Do you have a high open rate? If not why not? And more. Nevertheless, you are right that having an autoresponder tool is important.
