Self Discipline- The Power Of Controlling Your Own Thoughts

by Lori on April 8, 2010

Self Discipline is the power of controlling our own thoughts is one of the best definitions that I have heard. We all possess this power but so few of us are using it. We go through life not really knowing that the lack of self-discipline can cost us immensely.

Self discipline is an inner strength, a motivation, it is just sheer will power of self that is very important to learn and master. It is vital to your self esteem; it sometimes plays a role in the very way that you and other people see you. You may think that you have developed this already but very few of us have. How do you know if you have or lack self discipline?

You will know if you have a lack of self discipline by just a few of these:

  • You do not think before you speak
  • You want to retaliate against a person who you think may have wronged you
  • You do not know how to control your emotions
  • Your mental attitude is not positive as it should be
  • You do not take control of your own mind and use it

These are just a few that I have mentioned here, but Napoleon Hill explains it better:

Napoleon Hill gives you exactly what you need to succeed. Understanding the power of your own thoughts is key to everything that you do. You have the power to create whatever it is that you want if you just realize this and nurture it on a constant basis.  Developing  self- discipline may not be an easy road for you but with consistent practice daily you will have mastered a principle that will serve you in your life and in your business and the success that will follow you will be worth you just taking the time and investing in yourself, because who is more important than you?

That’s a new definition to me! And so true – everything we say or do starts as a thought.

    Thanks Lori,

I've seen this Napoleon hill video before and it's excellent! I took control of my own mind a long time ago and it's really helped me in my life. I always take responsibility for my actions also and never blame others.

I remember 10+ years ago, I was a different person and would blame others for things that I did myself. I then decided to become a leader and not a victim.

    Thanks again Lori,

Great post Lori. Napolean Hill is an amazing man and mentor of mine! Thanks for the clip. The power of our mind and thoughts are so critical to the life that we will experience in the present moment and the future. I agree that Self-discipline is something that everyone struggles with and few people master if any at all. It is through the process of developing self-discipline that we grow and experience a great life for ourselves and all of those who share the journey with us. Thanks again for sharing this.

    Make it a great day!
    God Bless,

    Lori,
I so enjoy seeing posts on mindset because it’s what drives all the actions to success or failure. The choice is always in what we are thinking.

The world is waking up to this fact and network marketers are spreading the world.

    Thank you,

I like to actually listen to people, watch their eyes, acknowledge them with head movements and then pause for a moment and think about my reply. This has been lost in our society today and we all need to focus more on these things and others. Thanks for sharing this with us.

  • lorirobertson7

That is where your power comes in when you can stop and think before you respond. Thanks for you comment Bill!

This is a very useful and needed skill in everyone's life, and though most people acknowledge its importance, yet very few do anything to develop and strengthen it.

  • lorirobertson7

What a world we would have if more people used self-discipline.

    Hi Lori,

As you noted, you have to master self-discipline & without it, I would image you're probably going to be less happy & satisfied with the life & direction it's headed in. It is difficult to master this skill ~ yet so worth doing! Thanks for sharing :-)
