Overcoming Adversity And Defeat

by Lori on May 3, 2010

Every person has suffered from some type of adversity and defeat in their life and one time or another. It may have been the loss of a loved one,the loss of a job or a friend or even a business. No matter what the adversity and defeat was, most of us never could see the positive aspect of it and there is always one.

The greatest person who could explain how this is possible in my opinion was Napoleon Hill and he explains how you can overcome any adversity and defeat in your life.

Please comment and let me know how you overcame any adversity in your life!

    Lori,

Napolean Hill is a cornerstone in our industry. I never saw this video, it was goo information. Adversity and defeat as you well know Lori are always a part of our industry. The most important thing is what you do when you face adversity and/or defeat.

Thanks for posting this video, Lori! I learned a long time ago that adversity brings blessings in disguise, but I'm going to follow Napoleon Hill's advice at the end of this video. I think a review and deeper search might turn up some gold!

    Lori,

Thank you so much for posting this. Our outcome to the adversity in our lives depends on how we look at it and what action we take. Love the advice from Napoleon Hill.

As I have come to realize, there are no bad circumstances or events, there are just circumstances and events, and how we come through them is totally dependent upon how we allow ourselves to view them and respond to them mentally and emotionally. Every circumstance, every event, every relationship can either defeat us or help to move us forward to greater things in our lives.

As Dr. Wayne Dyer says, “If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.”

Valuable post. Great advice on how to view and learn from the seemingly difficult and challenging times in our lives. Is true that there is always gold to be gained from every experience, if we choose to keep our outlook positive and to dig deep enough to learn our lessons.

    Hi Lori,

It is amazing that the knowledge with which we struggle has been around forever! We think that we are so enlightened, but it is just age-old struggles.

Every adversity that I have experienced has been a sedge-way to something far more positive. God has always provided a better way.

My strategy for overcoming adversity has always been, “Keep walking towards the light.” Just put one foot in front of the other and walk towards that little pinpoint of light. Some days, that is all that a person can do.

Eventually, things always work out. Funny, that.

When I was about 14 years old I heard someone talking about turning your “liabilities into assets.” It started me thinking back then how to actually look at the world a bit differently than it appeared at first glance. It certainly has been helpful in my life.

I love listening to Napoleon Hill…so full of wisdom. Thanks for sharing!

Well who'd a thunk – it was Napoleon Hill's step mother who paved the way for his ground breaking book. I've learnt something.

Thanks Lori for the reminder that good things can come out of bad.

I know Steve isn't that awesome, you just never know how what some people would think was a bad thing turned out to be a great thing that has helped them in life and they would have never thought it would.

What a brilliant man. He was proposing “positive thinking” way before it became a popular topic. I think every entrepreneur could benefit from reading a few pages of Think & Grow Rich every morning. It can help strengthen our convictions and help us more easily overcome any adversities we may face during the day.

  • lorirobertson7

You are right Jacqueline, I have the book on my night stand a maybe not everyday but very often I read a chapter, I just love that book.

Napoleon Hill is awesome!!! Adversities give you the opportunity to respond…when you can take 100% response-ability a.k.a. realize that you have the ability to respond to any given situation in a positive versus negative light nothing in life will be too great to overcome!

  • lorirobertson7

    Amanda, I totally agree
