Have You Met Your “Other Self”?

by Lori on November 11, 2010

Have you met your “other self?” People who are successful usually do not start that way. They go through trials, tribulations, heartbreaks and struggles for what may seem like a lifetime before they actually obtain that success people think happened overnight.

During the course of all the things that life takes you through and you may feel that you are at the lowest point in your life, you lost your job, your spouse of significant other has left you, your children are taking you through changes, or you may have lost your home and feel like there is no way out.  Your back is up against the wall and because you still do not give up, you meet your “other self.”

You find a new found strength, character, courage and determination to succeed.  A burning desire comes over you and ideas and concepts start to fill your mind and you have no idea where they are coming from.  You will start to uncover the genius that is locked away in your mind because you realize that you are never defeated until you accept defeat as reality!

You then realize that there is no other recourse but to succeed.  Failure is no longer an option and something inside you awakens and the authentic “other self” emerges and is exposed to the world.

I have met my other self on numerous occasions and I am still amazed at what it teaches me and how I have changed.  I have a new sense of peace and a feeling of “can do”.  I am all that I am and the greatness that comes from me is beyond my comprehension.

People have  a tendency to only see with their eyes and not with their minds and that is a big mistake because they cheat themselves of what they can have based on what they see instead of what they can create.

Evidence of what is possible is all around you if you just take the time to look and listen to that voice inside of you!

Your other self is someone you should embrace, you don’t have to be going through adversity to find it, just go look in the mirror and there you will find all that you need to BE GREAT today because you already are!

    Lori,

Great points here. Overcoming those inner fears and taking steps into areas where we are not comfortable can be a challenging thing for most people. Sometimes you really do have to listen and trust your other self… nice post.

I have never really thought about it this way. The “other self”. That almost animal like creature inside that is so tenacious it will fight through anything. I have been in situations where this “other self” has come to the surface, and sometimes it has been frightening. But you are right, it is something/someone we need to embrace and accept in order to control.

We all have that habit of doing that from time to time but because you recognize it you will slowly stop going back that comfort zone and do things a little differently.

I love your article on your other self Lori. It is so very, very true. I prefer to call mine my future self. What would my future self do to fulfill the goal I have set for myself.

Lori, meeting your “Other Self” is the pathway to success. I find when surrender the big I in me and let the “Other Self” guide me the correct road is taken. An ancient writer said this about the other self: “He must become greater; I must become less.”

Thanks for reminding us of this great truth “there you will find all that you need to BE GREAT today because you already are!”

Your true inner self always comes through when you need it most. Pushes you farther than you’ve every been before…that is if you choose to not to let defeat overcome you. Thanks for the reminder for reflection.

Thanks for this. I guess I am feeling a bit of a need for a pick me up or a kick in the tail today. I keep finding this type of advice, and it moves me more each time. This is exactly what I needed right now. I’m headed off to face myself in the mirror. :)

    Hi Lori,
interesting way of wording our inner genius our ‘other self’.
I belief it is really the larger part of ourselves, just that we have bought into the limited conditioning throughout our life be well meaning people around us to listen to the other voice.
    Thanks for the article!

    Yorinda,

The beauty of our other self is that we can control what and who we listen to and let that become our guide. Love your comment, thanks.
